FAY COMPTON NEXT WEEK.

Miss Fay Compton, the distinguished London actress, is repeating in the South Island her triumphs of the North. At the conclusion of her southern tour Miss Compton is to return to Wellington to play a week's season of modern comedy, commencing on Easter Saturday, April 16. Those who have already seen Miss Compton and her London company of Williamson stars in the episodic play, "Victoria Regina," will find in Gerald Savory's witty play, "George and Margaret," a frolicsome, joyous, and fluent study in family life. It is the source of unrestricted merriment wherever played. Recognisable domestic characters move across the stage, the setting being the modern home of the Garth-Banders—futile mother, father, son, bogey guests, daughter, maid, and the daughter's lover —and there is not i a dull moment from the moment Alice and Malcolm sit over the breakfast table discussing the foibles of their family. Miss Compton giyes a brilliant and witty delineation of the mother, and is ably supported by Stafford Hilliard as the husband. Both roles are distinguished by artistic poise and restraint in effective expres-' sion of humour. By the whimsical design of the author, George and Margaret make no actual appearance, but are ever-present aids in spirit to the fun of the performance—family bogey guests ever threatening an unwelcome visit. Bruno Barnabe, Michael Wilding, Hayley Bell, Yvette Arming, and Jack McNaughton are prominently cast.
