ALEXANDER MINES.
Alexander Mines reports for March: No. 6 crosscut: Advanced 125ft, making a total of 1376ft from portal and 272ft yet to be driven to reach a point to rise to meet winze from No. 5 level. Country passed through has been good with very little water. No. 4 level: South extension extended 29ft; good reef track followed carrying a little stone with low values. Stoping: The usual faces have been worked during period, but available ore to be extracted between Nos. 4 and 5 levels is rapidly being depleted. No. 5 level: New sinking pump arrived at mine to enable sinking winze on reef below No. 5 level being resumed. It Is intended to sink this winze to a depth of 80ft so as to give the correct position to rise from No. 6 level. Power line: This has been improved. It is hoped to now have sufficient power for generating compressed air to work the rock drilling machine and the new sinking pump at the mine. During the month 288 tons crushed for 158oz of melted gold. During month 210 tons of sands treated for 51oz lOdwts of bullion. Total estimated value, £1383. In addition 7.58 tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £217. In estimating above value gold has been taken at 140s per fine 02.
