Seven days of racing at Randwick within a month commences on Saturday when the meeting transferred from Warwick Farm will be held. At Randwick this morning, on a grass t.rack which was very fast, John Wilkes, toe Sydney Cup favourite, beat the New Zealander Haut Monde over a mile in lmin 42Jsec. Cathartes beat! ! Apollo over a similar distance in lmin j 43isec.
Sir Regent and Improvement finished together at the end of a mile in lmin 42isec, and Genetout ran a sound ten furlongs in 2min ICisec.
The fastest mile and a quarter was registered by Billy Boy, who left the distance behind in 2min B|sec. Old Rowley, a Cup possibility, beat Silver Standard easily over nine furlongs in lmin 57sec. Pandava and Adios did the best half-mile in 48sec.
Gold Rod went very fast on the tan over four furlongs in 47£ sec.
