SPORTING
FOR EASTER RACING
TRENTHAM TEAMS
THIS MORNING'S GALLOPING
(By "JUngatira.")
With the exception, of Arctic King, who is going south to Hiccarton, Trentham horses will do their Easter racing at Tauherenikau and Feilding. Only a few horses at most, however, are likely to make the trip to Feeding, so ' that the centre should have a very powerful battery with which to face all-comers at Wairarapa.
It is still rather early for serious Easter trials, but the tracks were busy this morning, and a number of the horses were tried against time. The weather was fine and hot, and the work was mostly done on the plough, whichis very fast at present. After-breakfast hours are now being observed, the tracks not being opened till 7.50 a.m.
White Lady (R. A. Hawkings) ran half a mile in 52sec. Diareus (Hawkings) and Lady Lyric (C. Sargent) took SOsec. Yours Truly (L. T, Nesbitt) and Dissipation (S. Wilson) recorded the same time on the grass.
A number,, of horses ran half-miles in 49sec. Bodyline (Hawkings) went well in beating Myriam (R. Hawcs) by a couple of lengths. Liane (A. E. Berinet) was a neck in front of Sunbeam (Wilson) after five furlongs, the last half-mile in 49sec, Debham (Wilson) shaded Sigurd (G. Flpod) at the end of an attractive five furlongs in lmin 2 3-ssec, the last half-mile itv 49sec, with Sigurd appearing to be going every bit as good as his mate.
, Dancing Flame (Hawkings) took lmin 4sec for five furlongs, the last half-mile in 52sec. Twenty Grand (Hawkings) was half a length, in front of Beauly after running half a mile in 50sec. Sunder (Sargent) required 53 sec. ~
Boomerang (W. Doyle) showed himself well forward- for resuming racing by leaving a mile behind in lmin, 44sec, the last half-mile in 51 3-ssec. This Iliad gelding looks better ; than ever before.
Might (A. ( W. Sim) also pleased; by running on to beat iGalteemore (Bennet) over seven, furlongs In lmin 32 3-ssec, the last half-mile. in_ 52 2-ssec. Might is standing up well to" his' work. Galteemore was always under a hold, and he could-have done better had he been required. '• ''■'-'■ ' ' "]:■''■::,. ■ ■ r Matqru (J. McCauley) left Laggard (P. Burgess) at the end of an easy seven furlongs. Drachma (Sim) and Coronado (R. D. Geirard) ran a smart three furlongs in 36sec. ' Protectress (Doyle) was two lengths ahead of ; Quexona (Bennet) after.runningy the same distance in 38sec
The rest of the work was mainly of a serviceable order. AUoa, apparently revived from his knee trouble, was given solid -pacing.' Sunee, .'who ■is suffering from a splint, is\ not ■ being worked at present, ~, ■.
To replace Impersonator, who has gone amiss and is spelling, L. Browne has taken over another Chokebore cast-oft in Bun Fight on lease, and he will race this disappointing mare on the Nelson-Blenheim circuit. Bun Tight looks quite well, but she is much on, her toes and' Browne is concentrating at present on settling her down.
Sunder, who has joined H. B. Lorigan's team, has been bought by Mr.- J. F. Atkins, of Wellington. This Royal Divorce gelding is six years old and still a maiden, but he,is one who may in due course make a jumper.
! Arctic King is going to Riccarton to contest the Sockburn Handicap and the Great Autumn. He is to be ridden by S. Wilson, who .will be at Tauherenikau on the first day. ' T. R.. George's apprentices will be mainly at Tauherenikau, but if/any horses are sent frbm the ' stable to Feilding A. E. Bennet^may accompany them to do some of the riding. R. C. Penman has transferred to Trentham, where he has taken up quarters ml J. Ayres's 'stable. He has brought a team of. ten horses from Otaki, including Beau Gallante, Nightjlass, Gay' Hunting, Dame Flora, and /Tom Tom. The others are, novices still to race. Nightlass 4s not actually back in work, but she has made a good recovery from her breakdown, which' rob Tied her.of a certain victory at Trentham in January.'and it is hoped that she will stand up to a further preparation.; . :
