MASTER NORVAL'S FORM

Whatever Master Norval might have been at one stage of his career on the flat, he has given very little encouragement in his racing over hurdles of making a payable jumper. He was having only his first start since the spring in the hurdles at Wanganui on Thursday, but he made a very poor showing and finished a long way back. On the flat some seasons ago Master Norval had an excellent line of wins, his successes as a five-year-old including the A.R.C. Liverpool Handicap (1 mile), the Waikato Cup' (li miles), and the Alison Cup (1 mile 3 furlongs) at Takapuna in succession. His form afterwards did not return to that peak, and now, as a nine-year-old, he is able to get in any hurdle field with the minimum. When at. his best he was raced under lease **Dy W. J. McLean, who could usually pick out a horse that had the ability in him tomake a jumper.
