PRISONERS SENTENCED

GISBORNE, February 25.
At the Supreme Court today, two prisoners remanded for sentence came before Mr. Justice Blair. Herbert Leah Paterson, found guilty on eleven charges of false pretences and two of obtaining credit by fraud, was sentenced to reformative detention not exceeding three years on each of the 13 charges, the sentences to be concurrent. The Judge said that the prisoner had gone from one part of New Zealand to another. He had a system of his own by ordering wreaths for mourners from florists and tender? ing valueless cheques. The offences totalled a large number for a young man, and he had qualified to be declared a/ 1 habitual criminal.
William Morris, for breaking and entering and theft, was sentenced to reformative detention for a period not exceeding two years.
