TYPHOID FEVER
MENTAL HOSPITAL CASES
ONE PATIENT SUCCUMBS
A woman patient at the Porirua Mental Hospital died from typhoid fever at the end of last month. Three others in the same ward contracted the disease, but they are stated to be making satisfactory progress.
The usual precautions taken in such cases were applied immediately, and Dr. F. S. Maclean, District Medical Officer of Health, stated today that there was no evidence of the disease spreading at the hospital. There were no other cases in the Wellington district, he said.
Dr. T. G. Gray, Director-General of Mental Hospitals, expressed the opinion that there was no cause for concern. An outbreak of influenza among the patients at the institution would give him greater anxiety.
