LOWER HUTT FIRE

DAMAGE TO FLOCK MILL

A fire occurred late last night in a flock mill in Gracefield Road, Lower Hutt, owned by John Grant and Co. The outbreak apparently started in some bales of cotton stored in the boiler-room, which is cut off from the rest of the building. The Lower Hutt fire brigade had considerable difficulty in making •. sure, that the fire in the cotton was quite extinguished, the whole of the bales having to be thoroughly soaked with water. The rafters of the building were badly charred and the cotton damaged by fire and water. Considering the inflammable nature of the' contents, the brigade did good service in confining the outbreak.
