MINISTER AND MAYOR INITIATED
ORDER OF FORESTERS
Courts Loyal Northland, Sir George Grey, Sir William Jervois, and Robin Hood have held meetings recently. Six new members, were initiated. At a special meeting of Court Sir George Grey the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Friendly Societies, and Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington were initiated as honorary members. About seventy Foresters were present, including representatives from Court Lady Glasgow. Bro. R. C. Burnette conducted the initiation ceremony, assisted by Bro. A. T. Burnette, P.C.R., after which the two new brothers were accorded the "Foresters' Fire." Bro. W. Lee Martin is already a Druid, having been a member of that order for over forty years. . i Lodge Northland at its recent meeting made a contribution to the funds being collected on behalf of the Makogai Leper Island. Northland Foresters recently held a social in St. Anne's Hall, at which there was a big attendance of members of the order and friends. / ' Members of Palmerston North lodges are to pay a visit to Wellington, and during their stay in the capital an indoor bowling tournament will be held. A vote of thanks was passed to Bro. Kelly at the recent meeting of Court Sir William Jervois for a donation of books for sick members in hospital. Messrs. H. Kennedy and C. Boniface played exhibition games of table tennis after the recent meeting of Court Robin Hood. LOYAL ORANGE INSTITUTION. Recent gatherings of Lodge Kelburn have been well attended. An associate member was affiliated and arrangements were made to co-operate with District Lodge in a membership drive. ' > . ■'■~. Many members and visitors attended the recent meeting of Ladies' Lodge. The honour of life membership was conferred on Wor. Sister L. Moore after twenty-five years' service. The lodge was adjourned to admit the Rev. W. Gilmour, who gave an address on his Canadian, Belfast,, Glasgow, and Edinburgh experiences. A vote of thanks was passed to the speaker. Members from two sister lodges paid official visits. MANCHESTER UNITY ODDFELLOWS. In the past week meetings have been held by Petone and Combination Lodges, the latter holding its meetings at Johnsonville. A member from Eketahuna Lodge was a visitor. Members of Petone Lodge passed a vote of condolence to the relatives of the late Bro. F. Streeter. , . Members of Rose of the Valley and Sister Wallis Lodges paid official visits to the recent meeting of Combination Lodge, Johnsonville, at which one candidate was proposed for membership.
