SUCCESSFUL PARTY
ALICETOWN WOMEN'S CLUB
The fourth >"birthday" of "the Alicetown Women's Club was celebrated recently,, and took the form of a social afternoon, which '.was very largely at-tended-by, members and friends. The president (Mrs. Ashforth) extended a warm welcome to all present, including the Mayoress of Lower Hutt (Mrs. J. W Andrews) and representatives of tne' Silverstream, Stokes Valley, Taita, and-Belmont Women's Institutes. A bright-programme was.presented arid commenced with items by the singing circle, which were: much enjoyed,.as also were two recitations by Mrs. Ring. An original competition. "Hollywood Parade,", caused much amusement,: members. of • the committee, appropriately costumed, portraying popular film stars. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, after which* Mrs. Andrews wasycalled on to light tlie four candles surmounting the beautifully iced-birthday cake, and Mrs. Cox (first president of the club); to 'officiate with the cutting.
■An amusing play, produced-by Mrs., V.; Virisen,: and acted by members of the drama circle, w-as well received, those taking part being Mesdames McDougall, Shand, Kay, and Melrose.
A feature of the meeting was a display of pewter work, etc., executed by members of the arts and crafts circle. The competitions were -won by Mesdames '. Sproule,' Olsen,. and Miss Wilson;. ' ■"
