FIFTIETH REPORT

The oldest bowling club in this centre will submit its fiftieth annual report to members o_ June 30 when the annual -meeting of the Wellington Bowling Club will be held.

The club celebrated its fiftieth jubilee during the last season with a series of functions from the official opening oh October 10 onwards. The actual jubilee celebrations took place on November 19, 20. and 21 with a one-day rink tournauient and social, veterans' day. and a match between Wellington and combined clubs. An "at home" was also held for members' wives and daughters. The jubilee was also commemorated with a special souvenir booklet. Appreciation is expressed of the assistance given by club members, especially for the construction of a rockery on the western bank and for new mats presented. During the season members, of the club took an active part in centre competitions, entered a number of players tor the New Zealand tournament, and entertained the Queensland bowlers who toured New Zealand.

Club competitions were won by the following:— Champion singles and Thomas Ballinger Peace Memorial Trophy, Fyank Ross; champion pairs, A. E. Fowler and J. Porteous; champion rinks and Edwin Moult Memorial Shield, D. Christie, D. J. O'Neill, F. A. Edmonds, and Frank Ross; junior singles and Junior Rose Bowl, C. J. Cooper; president's and vice-president's match, C. J. Cooper, R. J. Thompson. JE. Stonebanks, and A. F. Spiller. The directors of the club decided to protect members by taking out an insurance policy to cover the effects in members' lockers. Some 145 members paid the premium fee and secured cover to the extent of £10. Another innovation was the installation of an electric hot-water service, which has proved a great boon to members and the ladies who assist with afternoon tea.

During the season the social activities of the club were kept well to the fore, and there were numerous. pleasant exchanges of visits. A rink from the Wellington Club visited Wanganui for the Wanganui Club's jubilee, and the Duthie Cup competition was played on the same green. On the way to Wanganui a game was played against Marton bowlers. Five rinks from the Christchurch Club took part in the annual match for the Friendly Bowl, and during the visit of the Christchurch players the Jubilee Rose Bowl for the Junior sinrles was presented by Mr. I W. H. Macdougall. The annual game with the Hutt Bowling Club for the Hamilton Cup was played on the Wellington green.
