PARENTS' ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Kelburn Normal School Parents and Teachers Association was held last evening in the school, the president, Mr. J. C. E. Turner, presiding over a big gathering. The annual report referred to the interruption in school work caused by the infantile paralysis epidemic, and stated that even with this break in the school year the roll ™mber was keeping up and now numbered 392, including 40 at the Clifton Terrace side school, which is devoted to infants and standards I and JI only. In past years, stated the report, fat. John's Pool had been used for swimming instruction, but the committee "ad now decided not to spend any f more money there. Pupils will in future Sake use of the up-to-date municipal baths at Karori it/infill In December last Mr. J. A. McGill resigned the secretaryship and Jr. iOwen succeeded him, but was recently transferred to Invercargill and the position was vacant at the time of the an nual meeting. ~_... ~„ _ u „ h „ ri The report paid tribute to headmaster, Mr. O. A. Banner aod a competent staff of teachers, who, since taking over as a normal school, haa put in excellent work. ~,„„„„ The balance-sheet showed a balance of £22 7s 7d after spending fidJ^on wireless equipment throughout the school and other incidental expenses. The proceeds of the school fancy dress ball netted £23 4s Id and subscriptions £6 12s 6d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted on the motion of tho chairman, seconded by Mr. P. Keesing. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. C. E. Turner; secretary-treasurer, Mr. P. Keesing; general committee (to meet quarterly;, all present; executive committee, Mesdames D. J. Fyfe and F. A. Millar, Major P. de B. Brandon, Messrs. J. A. McGill. N. F. Wilson, A. Pastas, and F A. Millar; representing Clifton Terrace side school on the executive, Messrs. C. E. Corrigan and J. Hamilton; the headmaster, Mr. Banner, to be ex officio a member of the executive committee. . ~ , ... A Clifton Terrace ladies' auxiliary was set up with the following foundation members with power to add:--Mesdames E. C. Awdry, M. McDonald, J. A. Corrigan, E. Johnson, M. Hamilton, Smith, and Miss A. Hilhard. It was decided to place on record the appointment of Mr. Finlayson, a former headmaster of the school, to the inspectorate in the Otago educational district, and to send him a letter offering the association's congratulations. A discussion ensued on the proposed new method of religious instruction in schools, but as little definite information was available the subject was left over for later discussion. The request of the Wellington Beautifying Society for' assistance in regard to improving the school frontages was referred to the executive for consideration.
