MINOR DERAILMENT
STONES FOUND ON LINE

AUCKLAND, June 17.
Stones on -the railway line caused the derailment of the two leading i wheels'of' the front bogie of a goods train engine near Taipuha station, eiglit miles north of Paparoa, at 3.40 p.m. More serious consequences might have occurred had not the driver of the train, Mr. J. Bright, Maungaturoto, noticed the stones when, a short distance away and immediately attempted to stop the train.' A derailment of the leading wheels could not be averted, however, but the train wa_s pulled up within a further two chains ■ without, any other mishap.
The police at Maungaturoto were subsequently informed of the accident, and tomorrow, together with railway officials,.-tbeyywlUxarry. put investigation as to how. stones came to be on the line.';--' '-.:','? '■■■■' ,•" "•" ■
It was stated that only' two stones caused the derailment. The train was bound from Whangarei to Maungaturotd; " About an' ?hdur'%_fi"spent in jacking the wheels back on to the line, the train crew being assisted by a surface gang which was working nearby. This operation was completed shortly before 5 o'clock, and the train proceeded south. The only other train to be affected by the accident was a south-bound mixed train which was held up for about 20 minutes.
