CANBERRA, June 17,

At the opening of the Commonwealth Parliament today the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Gowrie, in the Speech from the Throne, referred' to the marked financial and industrial recovery in Australia, the great reduction in unemployment, and the corresponding increase in production. He said the Government intended to appoint an inter-State commission which would deal with major problems between the Commonwealth and the States The Government would give serious consideration to the question of national insurance. A sum of £200,000 would be granted to the States for - vocational training of youths.

The development of defence would be seriously undertaken "in the light of the deliberations at the Imperial Conference."
