THEFT FROM FRONT OF SHOP
Described as being in a drunken stat^ at the time of the offence, Thomas King, a labourei, aged 55, appeared before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in ?the_ Magistrate's Court today charged with the theft yesterday of 12 pairs .of boys' shorts valued at £1 19s Bd, the property of a drapery shop in Cuba Street, and with drunkenness.. Tha accused said that he had no recollection of what, happened.
Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach said that the accused was seen to take a bundle from the front of the shop at about 5.30 p.m. yesterday. . He was found with the shorts in his possession. He had 27 previous convictions in various parts of New Zealand; but had' not been before the Court for three years.
Saying that he wished to give him every opportunity of going straight, the Magistrate convicted the accused and discharged him on the drunkenness count, and ordered him to . come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months on the other, a condition, being that he should take out a .pro* hibition order against himself.
