A LARGE MUSTER
GOVERNMENT CAUCUS
MANY MATTERS DISCUSSED
A wide range of questions relating to Government policy were discussed at a caucus of Government members held at Parliament Buildings today. This is the second caucus since the departure of the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) for England, and it was summoned in accordance with the usual procedure of acquainting members of the Government with what was being done on the administrative side. There -was a large muster of members, the principal absentees being the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semplc), who is indisposed, and the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry), who remained in Auckland because of the illness of his wife. Mr. P. Neilson. (Duuedin Central) was prevented from attending through illness, and apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Messrs. D. Barnes (Waitaki) and C. H. Burnett (Tauranga). The Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser), at the luncheon adjournment, stated that the matters discussed by caucus included those affecting the cost of living, housing, rentals for Government houses, the present unemployment position, dairy zoning, internal marketing, and the general question of economic policy. "No doubt reference will be made this afternoon to broadcasting, and the question of the Government's policy in regard to B stations may be discussed also," said Mr. Fraser, who added that he expected that caucus would finish its business by this evening.
