PRESIDENT SPEAKS
COMPANIES CENSURED
WASHINGTON, June^ 16.
President Roosevelt, breaking his silence on the steel strike, censured steel companies which refuse to make written contracts with labour.
The President declined to say whether this refusal violated the Wagner Act, but agreed with the strikers' basic contention that the companies should sign agreements with their employees. Mr. Roosevelt did not indicate whether Federal action was contemplated.
Strikers said that everyone was hopeful that the situation would be straightened out.
