PARIS, June 16. In an atmosphere of acute anxiety, the Chamber of Deputies, by 338 votes to 230, agreed to immediate discussion of the financial programme of the Prime Minister, M. Leon Blum.
The powers sought by the Government in its brief Bill would enable it to deal with the revenue shortage and possibly with the stabilisation of the franc.
At 5 a.m. it was announced that Communist Deputies had decided to support the Bill, thus assuring victory for M. Blum. Previously the Communists had decided to abstain from voting.
The Chamber adjourned at 6 a.m. after approving the financial programme by 3.4G votes to 247.
A message published yesterday stated that the Government had decided to stake its Hie on a Bill demanding lull powers to deal with the financial situation. M. Blum put the issue simply: "Either you vote for me or for the banks." The Government demanded an authorisation to take by decrees all the necessary steps to assure restoration of public confidence and to combat attacks on the currency and public credit.
