RABAUL AS CAPITAL
REPORT TO BE OBTAINED
SYDNEY, June 16.
A message from Eabaul states that the Administrator of New Guinea, Brigadier-General W. R. McNicoll, has been informed that the Commonwealth Government contemplates obtaining the services of a qualified scientist, probably from the United States, to report upon volcanic and seismal danger at Rabaul.
The Commonwealth will also appoint a committee of experts to examine the suitability of Rabaul as the future capital. A large section of the white population refuses to return there, and a number of women refugees, before embarking for Australia, advised their husbands to resign their positions, which they contend is the official alternative.
