LEAD BY BRITAIN

LIVING STANDARD

KEY TO PROSPERITY

MR. SAVAGE'S BELIEF

LONDON, June 16.

. The Prime Minister of New Zea/and (Mr. M. J. Savage), commenting in an interview with a representative of the Australian Associated Press agency on the result of the Imperial Conference, emphasised the value of the opportunities for frank and personal discussion, of which every delegate had fully availed himself. New Zealand would have liked to have seen more emphasis placed on the raising of the standard of living of the peoples of the Empire, in which Mr. Savage said he was convinced lay the chief means of improving the international situation and bringing prosperity to the whole world. The British Commonwealth of Nations should, give a lead in this vital matter. The best service New Zealand could render Britain would be to carry out successfully its present policy, in which he was convinced lay the key to prosperity in New Zealand. He also was emphatic that the maintenance of a remunerative' level for commodity prices was essential for prosperity.
