KILBIRNIE R.S.A.

A SUCCESSFUL YEAR

Between forty and fifty returned soldiers met in the clubroom of the Kilbimie. Lyall Bay, and Melrose auxiliary committee of the Wellington R.S.A. last evening for the annual meeting of the auxiliary. The chairmar* was Mr. D. Gunn, and the president of the Wellington R.S.A. (LVut.Colonel A Cowles, V.D.) was present as a visitor.

In moving the annual report (published previously), the chairman referred to the work that had been done by members and the support that had been accorded the committee by the public. The social activities of the committee had been well maintained, and funds had been raised to help comrades in difficulties. Every assistance had been given by the War Relief Association and by the Wellington R.S.A. Mr. Gunn also paid special tribute to the ladies' committee for assistance given. The report was adopted. The following officers were elected" —Patron, Mr. James Stellin; chairman, Mr. D. Gunn; vice-chairman, Mr G. F. East; treasurer, Mr. G. R. Little; secretary, Mr. H. M. Harris; committee. Messrs. V. H. Blair, H. Q. Bruce, B. B. Brown, G. D'Emden, P. Coira, H. Tahiwi, J. McClatchey, A. Ogden. and T. Henderson.

It was agreed that the committee should consider erecting an "In Memoriam" roll, including all members o£ the auxiliary who have died since its inception four years ago. Mr. Harris suggested that the auxiliary should donate two and a half guineas to the Fielden Taylor Memorial Fund and that the ladies' committee should be requested to contribute a similar amount. This suggestion was adopted unanimously. Colonel Cowles addressed the meeting briefly and stressed the need for returned soldiers to work together for the benefit of all. The support given to the R.S.A. during recent years, he said, had made the association a power in the land. It had been able to help the public in general as well ;as "Diggers who were down and out," and with continued support still more could be done. They all wanted to forget the war, but never their comrades of the war years. Although times had improved, there were many men once more in work who were having a hard struggle to restore their homes after many years without upkeep. The R.S.A. had helped many of these men, but there were others -who still needed help. He congratulated the auxiliary on the work done during the year, and expressed the hope that the work for returned soldiers would be continued during the coming year.
