KHANDALLAH AFFAIRS

The Khandallah Progressive Association received a letter from the N.Z.R. road services at its meeting on Tuesday stating that bus shelters were to be erected at the corners of Onslow Road and Benares Street, and Cashmere Avenue and Ranui Terrace.

The district engineer of the N.Z.R. wrote advising that wire-netting was to be replaced on the sides of the overhead bridge in Cockayne Road. Though children had caused the. holes in the wire by climbing on it, the holes were not large enough to constitute a danger.

The City Engineer advised that the condition of the roads and footpaths in Amritsar Street and at the corner of Onslow and Homebush Roads would be' attended to as soon as possible. He further stated that it was not possible to provide a second footpath between Baroda and Woodmancote Roads. Members of the association expressed regret at the inability of the engineer to see to the improvement of Baroda Road, as it was in places in a particularly bad state.

Members expressed dissatisfaction at the proposed new railway time-table which comes into operation on Monday. The new time-table shows a break of half an hour (between 7 a.m. and 7.30 a.m.) between the running of trains and members considered this too long. . The present trains, running at 7.15 a.m.-and 7.37 a.m., had been eminently satisfactory, and it was decided that the reason for the change should be sought. Captain Galloway stated that he would interview the | traffic officer in order to find the reason.

The condition of the Town Hall came in for adverse criticism. One member stated that the interior "resembled a barn." The association agreed that it was most desirable that the lighting and interior decorations should be improved.- .
