TAITA CEMETERY
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
The annual report of the chairman (Mr F. S. Hewer) lor the year ended March 31 was presented to the meeting of the Taita Cemetery Board yesterday afternoon. The report stated that during the year there had been 118 interments in the cemetery and 52 plots had been sold There were now very lew plots left'in the Anglican portion of the cemetery and the new Anglican portion would soon require to be opened. The new road to the Methodist and Roman Catholic portions had been graded and rough metal placed on it and the turning place at the top of the hill had been made. New paths had been formed in the Roman Catholic and Methodist . portions and these would now require to be tar-sealed. The general maintenance work of the cemetery had been carried out by the sexton with the occasional help of an assistant and also with the aid of relief workers employed in the grounds. As the relief work had now ceased the trustees would be required to decide what assistance was required to maintain the cemetery and to carry on the improvements if necessary. The sealing of paths had progressed steadily, although it had been delayed through bad weather and also through the difficulty of obtaining labour. Improvements carried out during the year had cost £133 3s 9d for materials I and for subsidised labour £67 11s. An application was received from the Funeral Directors' Association requesting that the fee for indigent burials be reduced to 12s.
