ADDINGTON SALES
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 16.
Except in the fat sheep and fat lamb sections at today's Addington market entries were smaller than normal. The market generally was good. Only a sprinkling of store sheep was forward. A pen of ewe lambs sold at 29s 2d, a pen of wethers at 255, and sound and failing-mouthed ewes at 22s lOd, on a par with best recent values. Export buying of fat lambs was left to one firm,1 and for a larger but more indifferently finished entry values were scarcely up to export schedule. About '7000 fat sheep were penned, including much good quality. Prime wethers maintained recent values, but lighter sorts were easier. Good ewes showed an advance of Is, and export sorts brought schedule rates. Best wethers made 32s to 365; special, to 41s: good, 29s to. 31s 6d; good medium weights, 26s to 28s 6d; light, down to 245; best ewes, 25s to 29s 6d; special, to 33s 6d; prime medium weight, 22s 6d to 255; light, down to 16s 6d. There was a small entry of 385 head of fat cattle, and values recovered by up to 25s for good steers and up to 15s for cows and inferior steer beef. Heavy prime steers made £12 to £14 10s; special, to £17 12s 6d; prime medium-weight, £10 15s to £11 15s; light and ordinary, £9 to £10 10s; good heifers, £7 to £8 10s; special, to £11 12s 6d; best cows, £6 10s to £10 12s 6d; medium, £5 5s to £6 ss. In the fat pig section porkers were easier by 2s a head. Choppers were better by 5s to 10s, and baconers were also dearer. Porkers made 25s 6d to 47s 6d, average price a lb 6d to 6jd; baconers, 54s 6d to £5 7s 6d, average price a lb 5Jd to 6Jd, and in cases to 6Jd.
