MILLING OF TIMBER

GOVERNMENT'S PROPOSALS

ROTORUA, June 16.

An indication that at the end of the present month the Government hoped to let a contract for the equipment and machinery necessary for the erection of a mill at Rotorua for the utilisation of products of the State forests and also for the establishment of a creosoting plant which would make it possible to supply most of the North Island's requirements in the way of fencing posts, strainers, mining props, and power poles, was given by the Minister of State Forests (the Hon. F. Langstone). when officially-opening the Rotorua Winter Show today. Mr. Langstone ■ added that the Government proposed to establish two similar enterprises in the South Island.

The Minister, during his visit to tho district, inspected Native land development work in his capacity of Acting Minister of Native Affairs and expressed his gratification with the splendid progress being made.
