COMIC OPERA SEASON.

The J. C. Williamson Company headed by popular Gladys Moncrieff and Cecil Kelleway commences its Wellington season at the new Opera House on Saturday of .'ext week. The repertoire includes Lehar's famous Viennese waltz composition "The Merry Widow"; •Southern Maid," a three-act musical play the book by Dion Clayton Calthrop" and the late Harry Graham (who with Adrian Ross and Douglas Ferber. wrote the lyrics, as well) Harold Fraser-Simpson wrote' the music. Captain Graham was also' part-librettist and lyricist jf "Maid oi the Mountains," which is also in the company's repertoire Miss Moncrieff loves her role of Sonia in the Lehar operetta, as it :ontains all the essen tials of character, colour, music, and dramatic opportunities. Cecil Kelleway has completely satisfactory roles in all three operas, and a splendid cast in support includes Eric Bush. Lois Green, Arthur Clarke, Don Nicol, John Fraser. Carmen Mascagny, Cecil Pawley, Peter Dawson. Gerald Connelly, Lesley Crane, Geoffrey Colledge (the last two named are New Zealanders), and a full chorus, ballet, and orchestra (under Fred Quintrell's direction).
