MONTHLY REPORT
The monthly meeting of the Wellington branch of the Plunket Society was held on Friday and was presided over by the president, Mrs. Jowett. Mrs. Jowett welcomed Mrs. Kinsman, the new president of the Miramar committee, and Mrs. Fish,', representing the Seatoun committee. . Miss Hitchman, who has been the older children's nurse, has been temporarily appointed to^ the position of charge nurse of the Wellington branch; Miss Nancy Hughes, a registered general and Plun-ket-trained nurse . with previous- experience in Palmerston North, and Auckland, has been appointed to take the older children's section. Misses Harris and McMillan have now completed their probationary period in the society and their appointments to the permanent staff are ratified. 'Misses Bevei-ley and Campbell are relieving Misses Paynter and Samson, while they are on extended leave'abroad. The resignation of Mrs. L. H. Wood was accepted with regret, the committee placing on record its appreciation of her work while a member of the committee. Mrs. Hopkirk and Mrs. Clifton were elected to the committee. Mrs. G. Johnson who has given many years of hard work to the society, first as president in Kelburn and then as a central committee member, was elected a vice-president of the branch. The Plunket nursing report gave the following figures:—Pre-natal section: New cases, 18; post-natal section: new cases, 104; analysis of feeding, 78 breastfed, 16 paritally breastfed, 10 bottle fed; visits to homes, .1100; visits to rooms,- adults 2415, babies 2195, children 279. Thanks were accorded to Mesdames Aiken, Maylor, Hewson, Plank, Wood, Tripe, Whyte, and Turnbull for motoring nurses to their longdistance cases, and to the Two-gar-ment Society for welcome parcels, and to Mrs. Barnett for clothes. The matron of the Karitane Hospital reported as follows: -Number of babies admitted 22, in hospital 17, mothers admitted .11, in residence 3. A premature baby, admitted one day old and weighing 3 Jib, making very satisfactory progress. Another premature was admitted one day old. Her mother came into hospital after five weeks for two weeks, and both were discharged progressing well, when the baby was seven weeks old. The matron acknowledged with thanks singlets from Mrs. Mackie and a sack of apples from Mrs. Wilson, Waikanae, also apples and potatoes from Blenheim branch. The house committee at its monthly meeting took the opportunity to say farewell to Miss Murphy, the senior sister at Karitane for some years, who has been appointed matron of the Wangar nui Karitane Hospital. The committee expressed its regret at losing Miss Murphy, and wished her success in her new position. Miss Young has completed her training as a Karitane nurse. ~' ■ ■ The admissions for the month included the triplets from Hastings. The three little girls on admission were Mary 51b 4oz, Elizabeth 51b BJoz, and Rose 51b Bioz. Their condition on arrival was satisfactory and: they had not given their nurses, any undue anxiety on the journey. They are progressing well. Mary was now 51b 12oz, Elizabeth 51b 14oz, and Rose 51b 14oz. Since their arrival the matron has had many inquiries about them, but the triplets will not be receiving visitors for some time. The treasurer acknowlegded subscriptions totalling £15 13s 3d paid to the central office. A resolution thanking Miss Phyllis Bates for organising the recent cabarets, which realised £43 16s, was unanimously passed. Other receipts were: the Greytown branch, for the Karitane Hospital, £5, Khandallah £15, Islandß ay £10 7s 8d; Kelburn £29 18s Id, Eastbourne £9 0s Id, Seatoun £2 13s Bd.
