HUTT VALLEY NEWS

SUCCESSFUL BALL

(From "The Post's" Representative.)

Against the vivid background of massed flags and Coronation-coloured hangings, a huge scarlet cross gave point to the scheme of decoration at the annual ball of the Lower Hutt Red Cross Society held in the Horticultural Hall last night. Banks of gorgeous hydrangeas filled the foreground of the' stage, while across the hall hung ropes of coloured lights leading up to a central revolving ball with mirror facets. There was an exceptionally large attendance, and the ball, which is always a very popular one, went merrily, to the music of a rhythmic orchestra. Several novelty dances were particularly enjoyed. The guests included the president of the Wellington centre of the Bed Cross Association, Dr. Gillies, Captain Galloway (secretary of the Wellington centre) and Mrs. Galloway, Captain Andrews and Mrs. ■Andrews (Dominion Secretary of the N.Z. Red Cross Society).

The success of the ball.was due in no small measure to the indefatigable
