TALENTED VIOLINIST

MISS MCDONALD RETURNS

Music-lovers extended a hearty welcome to Miss Ruby McDonald last night, when, in the Palm Lounge of the Hotel St. George, she delighted her audience with her violin solos. Since leaving Wellington some years ago she has made a name ior herself as a conductor and a soloist both in New York and Sydney, and her recent production in the latter city of Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" was an outstanding musical triumph.

Miss McDonald has original ideas about the training of voices, and in a chat to her audience last night she intimated that she would like to open a conservatorium in Wellington if sufficient encouragement was offered. Her programme last-night thrilled her listeners. It included the Schubert^ Wilkeling "Aye Maria," Sarasate's. "Whistling Cobbler," "To Spring" (Grieg), a Brahms waltz, "The Bee1 * (Schubert), and a number of other classical items. In the playing of. these Miss McDonald showed herself possessed of powers of technique and expression which place her very higll in the ranks of solo violinists.
