The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Winter Meeting opened at Hastings today in fine weather and with a good attendance. The course is a little soft after rain overnight.

Whakatu Hurdles Handicap, £125; U miles.—4 Unexpected, 9.0 (Thomson), 1; 2 Kentucky Song, 9.9 (Grindley), 2; 6 Blue Tiger, 9.13 (McGovern), 3. All started. Three and a half lengths; neck. Time, 2min 51sec.
Corinthian Plate, £100; li miles — 1 Tail Light, 11.13 (Mr. K. Duncan), 1; 3 Bothwell, 10.9 (Mr. R. Russell), 2; 5 Umpire, 10.10 (Mr. S. B. Monteith), 3. All started. Three lengths; half a length. Time, 2min 47sec.
