NOTICE OF MEETING

LISTENERS' LEAGUE

BAN ON BROADCAST

(By Telegraph—l'rtss Association.)

DUNEDIN, This Day.

The secretary of the Listeners' League recently telegraphed to the Acting Minister of Broadcasting (the Hon F. Jones) for permission to advertise from 4YA and the B stations the league's annual meeting. Mr. Jones replied that it was not possible to comply with the request as the transmission of advertisements from the stations was prohibited under the provisions of the Act of last year. The secretary then stated that the section of the Act only prohibited advertising for pecuniary benefits. This meeting was not for the pecuniary benefit of anyone, and the broadcast was only a notice of the meeting. To this the Minister answered that notwithstanding the views expressed the matter was not considered suitable.
