INJURED IN BUSH
LONG WAIT FOR RESCUE
WOMAN AT YORK BAY
To have to spend nearly thirty hours beside the bank of a creek in the bush at York Bay after falling from a bank and injuring her ankle was the experience of Mrs. J. E. J. Bannister, of Wanganui, who has been staying with relatives in York Bay.
Mrs. Bannister was missed shortly before noon on Thursday and when she did not return alarm was felt > : for her safety. Search parties were organised, but for a long time they met with no result. Mr. E. J. Righton joined in the search yesterday and decided to comb thoroughly his property of about 188 acres. He commenced t 1 p.m. with an assistant and followed the procedure of calling and waiting for a reply. His efforts were rewarded about 5.45 p.m. when he heard an answering hail and found Mrs. Bannister lying among the boulders alongside the creek bed. She had presumably fallen over a 10ft high bank, above which was another bank at a steep angle. Although she was not able to move she was quite cheerful, considering the circumstances. ' A.stretcher party was arranged and Mrs. Bannister, was carried out of the bush. The Free. Ambulance was summoned and conveyed her io the Wellington Hospital. An operation was performed and her condition was described today as satisfactory.
