SEQUEL TO PACT
ANTI-FASCIST STUDENTS
DIPLOMATIC VICTORY HAILED IN ROME
(United Press Association—B.v Electric Telr trraph—Copyright.)
BELGRADE, Match 27.
Students demonstrating against the Pact with Italy traversed the main streets, smashing windows and shouting: "Long live France" and "Down with Fascist Italy," until the police drove them into side streets.
An official communique points out that the Pact is to operate for five years. It does not conflict with any previous obligations of the signatories. The communique says: "'Existing alliances and friendships with other Powers remain intact."
Reports from Rome, however, hail it as "a Fascist diplomatic victory" completely outside the framework of the League of Nations.
A cablegram from Belgrade published on Saturday stated that a treaty of friendship between Italy and Yugoslavia has been signed stipulating, in respect to frontiers, that in the event of aggression against one party the other shall refrain from action helping the aggressor. An economic agreement for the creation of a permanent economic committee to further trade has also been signed.
