QUALITY FIELDS ENGAGED (By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post") DUNEDIN, This Day. With the continuance of fine weather the track should be in excellent condition for the opening of the Dunedin Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting tomorrow. There is a good contingent from Canterbury and Southland, and the racing will be most interesting. The betting will be on the win-and-place system. The following should run well:— Warrington Hurdles.—Golden Lap and Royal Pal. Trial Handicap.—Robant, Golden Pheasant, and Brilliant Boa. Berwick Handicap.—Barley Almond, Gambler's Luck, and Palmyra. Publicans' Handicap.—Gold Boa, Paper Slipper, and Knockfin. Dunedin Cup.—Wild Chase, Argentic, and Queen of Song. Champagne Stakes.—Haughty Winner, Royal Chief, and Forecast. Stewards' Handicap.—Grand Finale, Travenna, and Top Notch. President's Handicap.—Willie Win, Galleon, and Recollection. The card is:—

When he fell about a furlong from the post in the Matamata Hack Cup last Saturday the four-year-old Strong Spear dislocated a fetlock and was destroyed. Owned by Mr. J. Clothier, Strong Spear was a bay gelding by Spear Dance from Unity, hence a halfbrother to Te Monanui, Standfast, and Ohinemuri. He had done very little racing, but had,shown promise.
