FORCED LANDING

AEROPLANE DAMAGES

PROPELLER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, January 3. A West Coast Aero Club's aeroplane piloted by Mr. R. Shallcrass, of Greymouth, had to make a forced landing on the beaofi near Punakaikai at 5.45 p.m. on Saturday owing to bad visibility, and the propeller was damaged when the machine's nose struck the gravel. A new propeller was fitted this morning, and the aeroplane took of! and proceeded to Hokitika. Before landing, the aeroplane circled over a score of motor-cars held up on the road on account of a collision in which a car belonging to a party of four men from Canterbury lost a front wheel, as also did the other car concerned, which was locally owned. There was general surprise when the aeroplane landed, but the feelings of all were relieved when it was found that Mr. Shallcrass and his passenger were uninjured.
