INVESTMENTS OVER HOLIDAYS
CUDDLE'S OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
(By "Rangatira.")
With further substantial increases in totalisator turnovers, the holiday racing carnival was brought near its conclusion on Saturday, when generally better weather was experienced than on New Year's Day. The only meetings throughout the carnival this year at which there have been decreased investments were the Dunedin, Waikouaiti, and Westland (affected by postponement due to the weather), and the reason for the decline in the first-named pair has been the epidemic that is at present prevalent in Dunedin. For all meetings up till Saturday the aggregate investments weie £883,326, which represents an improvement of £180,519 on last year's figures, or just over 25 per cent. The features of Saturday's racing were the excellent results at the Auckland, Wairarapa, and Canterbury Park Meetings. The success of the Trentham mare Cuddle in completing the same treble of wins at Ellerslie as she achieved last year —the Auckland Cup, the King's Plate, and the Clifford Plate—was the outstanding performance among the horses.
