MEMORIAL TO SIR JAMES CARROLL
I The Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata has communicated with some friends of the late Sir James 'Carroll here in connection with the memorial and carved Runanga house which, at a cost of £7500, is in May next to be dedicated at Wairoa. The Maoris in the Wairoa district have raised over £5000 towards the cost, and the Natives outside Wairoa have promised £1200. It is felt that the late Ariki's many pakeha friends would like to help with the balance and thus be directly associated with the memorial. To enable those friends in Wellington to do so, Mr. J. J. McGrath, of Wellington, at the request of Sir Apirana, has agreed to accept and forward any donations to the Maori Land Trust Board at Gisborne, who are the trustees of the fund, and who will officially acknowledge receipt direct to the donors.
