BIGGEST OPEN-AIR THEATRE

The biggest open-air theatre ever known, and the largest stretch of scenery ever painted, was one of the attractions at the Empire Exhibition at Johannesburg. The scenery, which depicted three typical South African scenes, was 450 ft long. It formed the background for a pageant of South African and Rhodesian history which was staged by more than 1000 performers. Another feature of the exhibition were the large painted panels showing the various methods of warfare from medieval to mofUy^Lstinjes.
