EXHIBITION IN LONDON
A CORONATION EVENT
An invitation to send a collection of pictures by New Zealand artists. to London, to be included in an exhibition of works by artists of the British Empire as part of the Coronation year programme, was announced at the meeting of the Association of New Zealand Art Societies last week!
Correspondence had been received from the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs enclosing a communication from the High Commissioner giving information that the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists proposed to hold an exhibition in London of contemporary works of art from all parts of the British Empire, to open in May of the Coronation year, and requesting that a committee be set up to bring the matter under the notice of all New Zealand artists and to organise the matter at this end. The association had advised the Government and the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists that it agreed to act as the society's agents in New Zealand, and would do its best to further the project.
The art societies of the Dominion would be asked to submit their artists' selected works for final selection in Wellington by a committee appointed by the association. The idea of the promoters of this exhibition is that the interest of societies of artists rather than national galleries shall be enlisted. Full particulars of the project will be circulated to artists though their societies..
