FEILDING SALE

"WENT WITH A SWING"

HEAVY ENTRIES CLEARED

The New Zealand Farmers' Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report on Friday's,Feilding sale:—A heavy yarding of all classes of sheep and cattle came forward. Buyers were present in force from Wairarapa, Taranaki, and Main- Trunk districts, and the sale went with a swing from the start, a total clearance being made at prices well in advance of late rates. Some very firm lots of fat sheep were submitted, and met with a keen demand, values appreciating by ls to 2s. per head.' A feature of the'store sheep section was the inquiry for two-tooth wethers, all lines being readily snapped up at auction, and here i again prices showed a substantial increase. The quality of the cattle yarded was exceptionally good, and it was evident at the start of the sale that buyers were determined to operate, the few pens passed at auction being immediately snapped up at the venders' reserves. We made a total clearance of our'offering of 1300 cattle and 2500 sheep. - ■ ■ . DEMAND FOR CATTLE.

!■ Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—For this period of the year an exceptionally heavy yarding of beef breeds of all , classes came forward, including some particularly fine yearling and two-year Aberdeen Angus steers. It is many years Since we have seen such, a representative entry of cattle so late in the spring as this and with the recent mild rains in practically every part ■of the North the demand for cattle, in particular was the keenest we.have seen since during the slump days. Right from the commencement it was quite evident that a strong sale would result. We report a total clearance in every section, including sheep and cattle, with the exception of two small pens of sheep. The following, are our quotations:—Sheep: Fat ewes, 21s 9d, 225, 265" sd; fat hoggets, 22s 7d, 26s 6d; ewe hoggets in. the wool, 37s 6d, 40s 9d; wether hoggets, small, 19s lOd, 235. Cattle:a3- and 4-year P.A. bullocks, £9 17s 6d; 3-year P.A. bullocks, £8 10s to £9 3s; 2-year P.A. bullocks, £7 10s, £7 12s 6d, £7 15s, £8 Is to £8.8s; yearling steers, £6 4s, £6 6s, £6 16s, to £7 10s; 2-year Hereford heifers, £6; 2-year A.A. heifers, £6, £7 10s. In the dairy section a rather small entry came forward which met with a sale on a par with late values. '-' ■ VALUES FIRMER. Dalgety and. Company, Limited, report extensive yardings in all sections at-the Feilding Sale. The run cattle pens were filled to capacity with good quality Aberdeen Angus steers with a few pens of cows and heifers, coloured cattle being represented by a few pens only. * With the- recent heavy rains strong growth, of grass has set in making it necessary for cattle to hold the feed" iii good order for sheep, the result being that many buyers were present from far and near with a particularly sound sale. Practically the whole yarding changed hands, firming on,the best of recent prices. Beef cattle were penned in fair numbers, mainly dairy breeds, but a very good sale resulted in this section. Dairy cows and heifers were in small supply, owing to the lateness of the season* and there was. a good sale for reliable sorts. Yearling Jersey ; h&fers met strong:%demarid. ■■. ; •.. a" Fat sheep were mainly represented by ewes out of the wool, only a few odd pens- of short hoggets being offered. Competition was good, although plainer ewes were inclined, to ease a little. A full yarding of store sheep was penned, approximately two-thirds of which were shorn'hoggets, the balance being in the wool. No ewes and lambs were submitted. High prices were the order of the day in this section with a total clearance, competition being remarkably .strong for ewe hoggets, both in and out of the wool.
