AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION
A net increase of 884 in the membership as at August 31 is recorded j in the annual report of the Automobile Association (Wellington). On that] date the" register contained the names of 6004 financial members, after writing off 164 whose subscriptions were unpaid. This.compares with 5120 members at August 31, 1935. "In view of the number of motorcars in use at the present time, the registration figures today being higher than on any previous occasion in New Zealand, a substantial increase in membership was to have been expected," the report states, "but even having regard to this fact, the large increase, bringing the membership as it does to a new level, is a gratifying feature of the year's activities. The total receipts from. . subscriptions amounted to £5502, another record. After allowing depreciation on assets and £300 as a reserve for maps and guides, there was an excess of income over expenditure of £286 11s 3d. The Accumulated Fund now stands at £3149 2s 9d. Investments were also increased during the year." _ _ Referring to the patrol organisation the report states that the patrol officers both in regard to service and the enrolment of new members has been most satisfactory.
