MR. MOLE'S IDEA
(Original.)
The Fairy Queen did not know what to do. It was raining hard and the Queen had been invited to a party at Rose-tree Palace. She wanted to wear her new silver and gold robe with the embroidering dewdrops, but her best gold crown and silver shoes would be spoiled.by the rain. ' " "Your Majesty will.have a rain coat and1 hat aWd: goloshes',1; replied her servant - - • -,-' ■; "You have no sense. Don't you realise that a coat will crush my good dress, and a hat will squash my crown. And as for, goloshes, oh, my dear, they'll positively . ruin my shoes," cried the Queen. ' ,
The servant had already hurried out, not even waiting for an answer ■from the Queen. Everybody felt sure
it was not going to be a success, even the Queen did. All her subjects tried their best to think of some way that would help her to arrive at Rose-tree Palace without getting wet. Suddenly, as if from nowhere, Mr. Mole-popped up. "Your Majesty," said he, "I know of a very simple way that will help you to reach your destination without getting wet, neither will you need coat, hat,. or goloshes." , ,iß—but how am-1-—>" stammered the Queen. " " -■"'' ; "lam not going, to tell you. You'll Just have to wait until- tonight, and then you will get the surprise of your life," said Mr. Mole. The Queen and none of her subjects could guess what Mr. Mole's idea was.
At eight o'clock Mr. Mole arrived, and leading the Queen .blindfolded through a} passage (unknown to anyone else) "he reached Rose-tree Palace very soon.
"There, I have led you through an underground passage which I found," said Mr. Mole.
The Queen must have been grateful to him, must not she?
