GOLD ROD PLEASES
CUDDLE'S EXCELLENT SIX
(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, September 22. In an impressive Derby trial at Rosebery, Gold Rod galloped alone over a mile and a half. Ridden by M. McCarten, he went easily over the first five furlongs and then took lmin 31Jsec for the remaining seven, the last four in 50sec, and the last three in 37£ sec. Cuddle, also ridden by McCarten, registered the excellent time of lmin 16sec for six furlongs, the last three in 37sec. ' ,<-.■-, Mr. Montgomery, owner of Silver Jubilee, was present at Victoria Park to see him gallop a brilliant, four furlongs in 49isec. The "Sun" says there is little chance of Silver Streak's meeting his Randwick engagements. He pulled up lame today and has been scratched from all Melbourne events. He will probably return to New Zealand on October 9.
