ITALIAN CLUB

The fortnightly reunion of the Circolo di Lingua, c Cultura Italiana was held in the Pioneer Club's Rooms last Thursday. In the absence of Professor Boyd-Wilson, Dr. A. D.Carbery (vice-president) presided. The programme (arranged Isy Signor Carraro) included the reading of "L'Altra Strada," comedy by Sabatino Lopez. The roles were taken by Miss Constance Prouse, Miss Tewsley, Signor O. Carraro, and Signor V. A. Truda, who were much applauded.. An amusing diversion was the reading of some Italian humorous items, which were explained in English by Signor Carraro for'the benefit of beginners. Excellent musical numbers (from the studio of Signor A. P. Truda) were contributed t>y Mrs. T. Treacy, who sang "Voce di donne" (Ponchelli), "Nay, though my heart should break" (Tschaikowsky), and "Softly Awakes My Heart" from "Samson and Delilah," and Mr. P. O'Connell, tenor, whose items were "Love or Fancy?" from "Madame Butterfly," "Now Among You" (Manon Lescaut), and "O Paradiso" (L'Africaine). Mrs. G. P. Aldridge was accompanist. The evening closed with "Giovinezza" and "God Save the King," after which supper was served. The usual language instruction classes were conducted "by Signor Carraro and Signor V. A. Truda from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m.
