COLOURFUL SKETCHES

Water colours and drawings of merit, the work of Mr. Jack A. Salt, a young Wellington artist, are on view 'all this week in the Prudential Building on the second floor. Mr. Salt.has derived inspiration for hi:; water colours chiefly from, the rugged coast around Wellington, harbour scenes'figuring in others. J" Painted with boldi.ness and with a decided appreciation •of colour, these sketches all strike "a cheerful note, the majority radiating sunshine. Particularly good is one .of Lyall Bay, while of similar merit i;is a delightful study looking across the towards Somes Island. The -drawings are chiefly figure studies and show conscientious work. It is Mr. Salt's intention to try his luck in Sydney in the world of commercial art across;the Tasman. Judging by. the samples of work which he is exhibiting, he should•• meet with success.
