.Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Williams, Napier, accompanied by Miss A. Gillies, Napier, have been motoring in Scotland, the English Lake District, and Wales. Mr. Williams, who is at present in England studying architecture, recently passed the ■ final examination of the Royal Institute' of British Architects.

'.- Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Benthall expect to arrive in-Aucklatid on October 2 from Los "Angeles and. Honolulu. Mr. Benthall, who is the proprietor of a large and important general stores at Kingston-pn-Thames, is going out as delegate to the Congress of the Federation of' Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire. He will make a point of studying "trade conditions while in the Dominion, where he wil remain until October 28. He recently added a provision section to his business on the Thames, and it is not unnatural that New Zealand will have special interest for him from i this angle. In the important Thames-side town of Kingston' Mr. Benthall's store covers sixteen acres of floor space, and over 2000 are employed. The business was started fifty years ago by his grandfather. ' Mr. and Mrs. P~r.+.hal.l will go to Melbourne from Wellington, and they will return, to * J _. oy the Otranto. Mr.-J. W. Williamson, Auckland, with Mrs., and Miss Williamson, ihas planned .ah absence of seven and a half months from New Zealand. At San- .Francisco the travellers were met by relatives. They visited the Yosemite Valley and Los Angeles; and then continued via the South Pacific route to New Orleans, Washington, and Salisbury;. In Maryland nine weeks were'spent with Mrs, Williamson's relatives and numerous interesting tours were made. England was reached in the middle of this month, and altogether about ten weeks are to be devoted to seeing the Mother Country and "to. visiting relatives. Mr. Williamson'is' looking forward \ to seeing some. of the cathedral cities. He, is a member of 'the building committee of the proposed new cathedral in Auckland. Wliile in the United States he saw,the new Cathedral of Mount St. Alban. at Washington, and also the Cathedral of St. John the Divine at New York, both being still in course of cbrijtruction, and both magnificent edifices. Contributions towards the cost" Of the New York edifice have been made by people of many faiths and many countries. ,/ Lieutenant-Colonel J. Atkinson, who left with his wife and daughter (aged four) on the-Orioh on September 10, is looking forward to renewing acquaintance with the many -New Zealanders he met during the war when, for two years and a half, he was Offlcer-in-Command of the N.Z.A.S.C. At Wellington he proposes to-pay a call at the record office'in the hope of tracing their, names and addresses. At : the moment Lieutenant-Colonel Atkih-; son^s plans are indefinite, but: with hi?: wife he proposes to make a tour of both North and. South Islands and then to spend a month at some seaside' resort in the North Island. He has mentioned the possibility of settling in the Dominion; but at present he is not considering the suggestion seriously. Mr. Bojwater is one of the directors of W. V. Bowater and Sons, well-known paper manufacturers responsible for supplying many New; Zealand newspapers; his wife is a daughter of Lord Dawson of Perm, the famous physician who attended the late King George. They; are travelling by way; of < Montreal, VahcbuveY, atid Honolulu; and are due to feach'"Auckland;oh.the.AQran^i;.on : September 28; Togetherthey will tour New Zealand before proceeding to Australia on October 16. Mr. Bowater expects to call at South Africa on the way back to England, but his wife will not accompany him on the last part of the journey. - - : . - After a term of four years with the New Zealand Government, Trade and ! Tourist Commissioner in Canada, Miss i Jean R. McKenzie is joining the staff lof the High Commissioner n London. She travelled to England with Mr. and Mrs. Jordan, and she. expects to remain here indefinitely. •
