ST. GEORGE V. HUTT
A clear-cut superiority in all departments enabled St. George to pegister 34 points, against 12 by Hutt on Saturday. Hutt were not at full strength, most of their twelve players being drawn from the reserve grade. Hutt played attractively at times, but lacked the necessary weight to finish off many possible scoring movements. Lijburne was a.tower of strength in defence, and kept the scores from assuming greater proportions. Orr, Urb'ahn, and Hey were' the best of the backs, but could not cope with the speed of their opponents. Burns was the outstanding forward, though a little below his usual standard.
A monopoly of the ball from the scrummages enabled the St. George backs to play a merry tune. Only the keenness of the Hutt tackling and their own faulty handling kept the score within reasonable bounds. Timmins at centre was the best, back, using his speed and change of pace to the best advantage. ; Grace, the reserve grade winger, ran straight and with rare determination, but handled poorly at times. O'Connor and Bailey, 4he halves, played their usual solid game. Gladding and McNeil were .too fast for
their opponents, although both were prone to indecision on attack. Morsley, Nash, Simons, and Rennie in the forwards were too big and heavy for the light Hutt pack. For St, George Timmins (2), Gladding (2), Grace, McNeil, Hoare, and Nash scored tries. Spencer converted three and O'Connor two. Hey and Todd scored tries for Hutt. Lilburne converting both, as well as kicking a penalty goal.
