. Central, after being 11 points down at half-time, put up a surprisingly good showing on Saturday to hold Petone to 17-13 in, the Wellington Rugby League competition for the Board of Control Cup. St. George we're clearly too good for Hutt, running over that team to the tune of 34 points to 12. .

From a full kick by a Central player in the. high wind, Sherwood (Petone). gathered in the ball to score, Selwood converting. 8-0.

Petohe resumed with' a passing rush the ball going to Nixon, who scored between the posts. Selwood's kick hit the cross-bar. At half-time the score was Petone 11, Central 0.

Resuming-play, Petone took the ball near Central's line. Merson (Central) relieved by' passing to Bramble, who kicked downfleld, and Berry following through quickly, secured and scored. Petone 11, Central 3. A penalty was awarded Central, and Berry kicked a good goal. 11-5. Play went to Central's line, where a scrum took place, Sehvood: (Petone) securing to score. 14-5. Jamieson (Central) followed through, secured the ball, and scored. 14-8. Central were now playing better football, and carried play into Petone's territory. Berry secured from a scramble, scored, and converted his own try. 14-13. Play now became fast,- Central endeavouring to score another-try. Play went back into Central territory. A scrum was formed, and Sherlock, of Petone, crossed to score, making the final points:—Petone 17, Central 13.
