THE NEW PRESIDENT

LONDON, July 1
The Duchess of. Kent, is the new president of Alexandra Rose Day, which this year celebrated its silver jubilee. During the- morning the Duchess, following the precedent set by Queen Alexandra when she founded Rose Day, drove through London. She was accompanied by the Duchess of Portland, vice-president of the organisation, and Lady Mary Hope.
The Duchess went first to the Rose Day headquarters, where Miss Yvonne Arnaud presented her with a bouquet and Sir Arthur Stanley (chairman of the council) welcomed her. During the day nurses from St. George's Hospital called at the home of the Duke and Duchess and presented Prince Edward with a doll dressed entirely in Alexandra roses.
