SERIOUS CHARGES
POLICE EVIDENCE
WOMAN FOR TRIAL

When the hearing was resumed today of the five charges against a Hastings woman, Isabel Annie Ayes, alias Craike, of using an illegal instrument, Detective Farquharson said he visited the accused's house armed with a search warrant. He found medical articles, promissory notes, etc., and two account books. There were two women in bed in'the house.
The witness detailed digging operations, and said the discoveries made resulted in the arrest of Mrs. Ayes, who said she could not account for what had been found in the yard. Many foetal remains were discovered. Two instruments had been recovered with two lots of remains.
Detective Mills gave corroborative evidence.
Constable Chalmers stated that when he was in the accused's bathroom the latter said, "It looks as if they have got me this time."
The accused was committed for trial.
